On 1 October 2025, Corey Houle will take over as CEO of Hydrospider, succeeding Nicolas Crettenand, who is moving to a new role at Alpiq. Corey joins from H2 Energy, where he served as Commercial Director and CEO of Kvyreen AG. An experienced engineer, he brings deep expertise in the hydrogen sector. Four questions for the new Hydrospider CEO.

Corey, Hydrospider and the H2 ecosystem have now existed for five years. As the new CEO: How do you assess their development and where do both stand today from your perspective? Corey Houle: Hydrospider is, without question, a Swiss success story. Since 2020, we’ve delivered over 1,200 tons of green hydrogen with exceptional reliability - fueling a fleet of Hyundai heavy-duty trucks that have driven more than 14 million kilometers and avoided over 11,000 tons of CO₂ emissions. What’s remarkable is not just the scale, but the consistency. In an industry often marked by uncertainty, Hydrospider has become a symbol of what’s possible when vision meets execution. Over the past 2.5 years at H2 Energy, I’ve presented our hydrogen ecosystem to hundreds of industry participants around the world. What consistently stands out is Hydrospider’s reputation - not just as a technical achievement, but as a proven model of a clean hydrogen economy. While many initiatives remain in pilot phases, Hydrospider is delivering at scale and setting a benchmark for operational excellence.
As Commercial Director at H2 Energy, you are very familiar with the H2 business. How will your experience help you in your new role at Hydrospider? My time at H2 Energy gave me a deep understanding of the entire hydrogen value chain - from production and logistics to commercial deployment and partnerships. That perspective is invaluable as I step into the CEO role at Hydrospider. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with the Hydrospider team, Alpiq and Linde as well as our ecosystem partners, refueling infrastructure providers, and a wide range of end users, which has helped me understand both the technical challenges and the market dynamics. This experience allows me to keep a holistic view of the ecosystem and ensure Hydrospider’s strategy stays aligned with the evolving needs of the Swiss hydrogen network and our partners. Ultimately, I see my role as building a bridge - connecting the commercial realities of hydrogen deployment with the operational excellence Hydrospider is known for.
Which specific priorities would you like to set as the new CEO for the further development of Hydrospider?
The conditions for green hydrogen have become more complex. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, electricity prices have surged across Europe, while fossil fuels - especially natural gas - remain relatively cheap. This imbalance makes the business case for green hydrogen more challenging, despite its environmental benefits. And yet, Switzerland continues to lead. Thanks to the commitment of our ecosystem partners and refueling station operators - we’ve built a globally unique hydrogen mobility network with exceptional reliability.
I see clear opportunities for Hydrospider to build on this foundation:
Expand vehicle applications by working with OEMs to unlock new use cases beyond heavy-duty transport.
Diversify hydrogen applications into sectors like mobile power generation, EV fast charging, combine heat and power for buildings as well as replacing grey hydrogen in industry.
Continue refining our operations - like every company, we must constantly improve to stay competitive, agile, and ready to scale as the market evolves.
Hydrogen is often described as a key enabler of the energy transition. What opportunities and challenges do you see for Hydrospider and the H2 ecosystem in the coming years? High electricity prices and low fossil fuel costs create a tough economic environment for green hydrogen. At the same time, we’re seeing the limits of electrification: heat pumps and heavy-duty EV fleets are putting increasing strain on the grid, requiring massive investment.
This is where hydrogen and its derivatives offer a complementary pathway. Green molecules can work alongside green electrons to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels. Hydrogen provides flexibility, seasonal storage, and the ability to decarbonize sectors that are hard to electrify. For Hydrospider and the broader ecosystem, the opportunity lies in proving that hydrogen is not just a future solution - it’s a present reality. By expanding applications and strengthening infrastructure, we can help shape a resilient, zero-carbon energy system that balances reliability, sustainability, and economic viability.
